Fast Food Poisoning

Source : woodleywonderworks

Fast food is a risk for consumers because they are not in control of the food during preparation and occasionally food may have been exposed to conditions that promote the multiplication of bacteria which can cause sickness when consumed.

Bacteria, viruses and parasites can contaminate fast food during any stage of their collection, processing, packaging or distribution.

Fast food restaurants pride themselves on speed which in itself can present a risk. Proteins in particular are a good breeding ground for bacteria, such as under cooked or raw meat, pork, poultry, seafood etc. Fast food restaurants that do not properly cook their meals because of the rush to maintain their speed can cause food poisoning. Also some fast food restaurants may neglect hygiene which can also cause bacteria to be present on food and cause sickness when consumed.

When eating out or ordering food at a fast food restaurant look around to ensure that the establishment is clean. If the front is clean, the kitchen and food preparation area is probably also clean. Pay attention to whether staff are clean and handle food hygienically and check that food especially meats are properly cooked before consuming, they shouldn’t still be pink because bacteria may still be multiplying.
