Introduction to Food Handling (awareness)
Course Outline
The ‘Introduction to Food Handling’ awareness course will provide you with a short introduction to food safety, the legislation, and how to identify and control or eliminate food hazards.
On completion of the ‘Introduction to Food Handling’ awareness course, you will be able to:
- Explain the importance of food safety
- Summarise key responsibilities under the legislation
- Identify types of food hazards, and
- Explain how to control or eliminate food hazards.
This course is an introductory course only and is not nationally recognised for ‘SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety’. If you would like to complete a nationally recognised, Food Handling Certificate that will count towards a range of certifications such as a Certificate IV in Hospitality or Tourism, you will need to complete our ‘Food Handling Certificate’ course.
This course is an interactive and engaging way to build your knowledge of safe food handling The course is narrated and includes a short quiz at the end of the course.

Basic Food Handling course (awareness)
Course Outline
The “Basic Food Handling Course” (awareness) will provide you with an introduction to food safety, the legislation, and how to identify, control or eliminate and report food hazards in the workplace.
On completion of this course, you will be able to:
- Explain the importance of food safety
- Summarise your responsibilities under the legislation
- Identify food hazards that may affect the health and safety of people
- Demonstrate how to remove or minimise food hazards in your workplace and
- Explain the reporting procedure for food hazards in your workplace.
The “Basic Food Handling Course” (awareness) is a more comprehensive basic-level course that uses the course content from our nationally recognised “Food Handling Certificate Course” (SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety) but with basic quiz-based assessment only.
This course is an introductory course only and is not nationally recognised for ‘SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety’. You will receive a Certificate of Completion only – not a Statement of Attainment.
This course can be upgraded to the nationally recognised “Food Handling Certificate Course” course on completion of the additional assessment tasks (including the short answer, verbal and third party report assessments) and payment.
